Johnson has a reputation for having extraordinary vision and passing ability, and he dazzled the crowd and those watching television at home with an incredible display.
Johnson led Michigan State to an 86-68 victory over Bird’s previously unbeaten team. The 6’9” point guard earned the Most Outstanding Player award after finishing the game with 24 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
The Los Angeles Lakes selected Johnson first overall in the 1979 NBA Draft, and he wasted no time making an impact.
Widely considered one of the greatest point guards of all time, Johnson won five NBA championships and three league MVP awards while becoming a 12-time NBA All-Star.
Carmelo Anthony – Syracuse, 2003
Carmelo Anthony only played one season of college basketball, but what a season that was. In 2003, Anthony put together one of the most dominant freshman seasons in college basketball history, leading the Syracuse Orange to their first-ever national championship. Before becoming an NBA legend, Curry was a relatively unknown sophomore at Davidson College who took the basketball world by storm in the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
As the leader of a small school team, Curry put Davidson on his back and led them to the Elite Eight stage of the 2008 competition.
Along the way, Davidson upset more established teams like Gonzaga, Georgetown, and Wisconsin before almost causing another upset against Kansas.
